Dear Parents and Carers
I hope this letter finds you well. At High Hazels, we are committed to creating a school environment where every child feels safe, valued, and respected. Today is “Show Racism the Red Card” day, children and staff were encouraged to wear red clothing to symbolize standing up against racism. This visual statement helps to show unity and support for the cause.
Recent global and national events have highlighted the urgent need for all of us, as educators, parents, and members of society, to take proactive steps in challenging racism and promoting equality. We believe that schools have a vital role to play in fostering an inclusive environment where diversity is celebrated, and all forms of discrimination are actively challenged.
At High Hazels, we are dedicated to ensuring that our school community reflects these values. Here are some of the steps we are taking to address and promote diversity in our school:
- Curriculum Enrichment: We are reviewing and enhancing our curriculum to ensure that we are helping our children to develop a strong sense of belonging, mutual respect, and social responsibility, equipping them to be active, compassionate members of their community both inside and outside of school. Our goal is to provide a balanced and inclusive education that helps children appreciate and understand the value of diversity.
- Open Conversations: We are encouraging open, age-appropriate discussions in classrooms about race, equality, and respect. These conversations will help children understand the importance of treating everyone with kindness and fairness, regardless of their background.
- Parental Engagement: We understand that you, as parents and guardians, play a crucial role in supporting these values at home. We will be hosting workshops and providing resources to help facilitate conversations with your children about diversity and inclusion.
- Zero Tolerance for Racism: We are reinforcing our zero-tolerance policy towards any form of discriminatory behavior. We will continue to address any incidents seriously, ensuring that all children feel safe and respected within our school community.
We believe that teaching children to value and respect others, regardless of race or background, is a lifelong lesson that begins here at school. By working together—teachers, students, and parents—we can create a more equitable, understanding, and compassionate community.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are committed to ongoing dialogue and collaboration with our school community to ensure that we are living up to these values.
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Ms Elliott
