Intent
At High Hazels, we value Personal, Social, Health Education as one way to develop children’s understanding of how they fit into and contribute to the world. Through our progressive curriculum, we aim to promote the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils, prepare pupils for opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life and promote British values.
This element of our curriculum has a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical heatlh. Through this mindful approach, we aim to enhance children's emotional awareness, concentration, focus and self-regulation.
Implementation
In each year group, children are taught weekly PSHE sessions under the following themes:
- Being Me in My World (Aut 1)
- Celebrating Difference (Aut 2)
- Dreams and Goals (Spr 1)
- Healthy Me (Spr 2)
- Relationships (Sum 1)
- Changing Me (Sum 2)
Impact
Our PSHE Curriculum is high quality, well thought out and is planned to demonstrate progression. If children are keeping up with the curriculum, they are deemed to be making good or better progress.
Children are able to reflect on their beliefs, values and place in their immediate world and wider society.
They develop knowledge of, and respect for, different beliefs, faiths, feelings and values.
They develop their understanding of right and wrong and can apply this to their own lives, being able to reflect on the consequences of their own behaviour and actions.
They also develop their confidence and competence at working with, socialising and communicating with others, showing the ability to agree with and challenge other pupils’ thinking through respectful discussions.
